Non-discrimination policy

Class action lawsuit filed against cannabis dispensary company

Trulieve, the nation’s largest cannabis company, has been under scrutiny for its handling of workers. In particular, the company has been dealing with the death of an employee in January.

The worker, Lorna L. McMurrey, was working in a Trulieve facility when she collapsed and died. Her family believes that she inhaled ground marijuana dust. Emergency services arrived to the site in less than a minute and began providing medical attention.

Trulieve operates in two cultivation facilities in Quincy and one processing facility in Gadsden County. It also has locations in other states.

According to reports, Trulieve has laid off an undetermined number of employees in the past weeks. Those employees claim the company did not provide adequate notice. They also allege that the company violated the Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN Act, of 1988.

The Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires employers to give at least 60 days’ notice before terminating an employee. If the employer is terminating all or a majority of its workforce, they must also provide a pre-adverse action notice.
